The Barley Mow Freehouse, Selmeston
Situated on the A27 in Selmeston, midway between Eastbourne and Brighton, The Barley Mow Freehouse was one of the oldest coaching inns in Sussex. Now a family run pub which offers a very warm welcome, with freshly produced home cooked food and well kept local and national ales along with an excellent choice of wines.
A superb menu with fresh home cooked locally sourced food including pub classics as well as seasonal specials ensure this family and dog friendly pub is a popular destination.
The Barley Mow Freehouse is proving to hit the spot for those of you who love a traditional pub with a quirky edge. An open fire, friendly attentive staff, warm muted tones, cosy sheepskins and candlelight add to comfortable winter warmth. A large garden, outside bar, live music and afabulous play area make the summer a special experience too.
Eat & Drink
We are passionate about sourcing and serving quality food. We buy locally where possible and our team of chefs work hard to incorporate seasonal produce for our specials. These usually include some locally caught fish with maybe some game in the winter, or perhaps a continental favourite. We also have the favourite pub classics for those of you who love traditional country pub food.
We serve popular local beers such as Haverys as well as interesting guest ales. These, along with popular national beers and lagers, such as Guinness, Peroni, Asahi, Grolsch, are kept in tip top condition in our state of the art cellar. We also believe in serving quality wines at a fair and competitive price, by the glass as well as by the bottle.

Events
We host a variety of interesting and fun events at the Barley Mow. With an outside bar, live music and Hog Roast in Summer – there’s something for everyone. We’re also available for private functions – just ask for details.
Families
We feel strongly that we uphold the traditions of an English country pub. As a privately owned family run establishment we welcome locals, families, dog walkers, couples and everybody! We back directly onto the downs with a footpath leading from the pub to the National Park.
Our large garden and play area, which we believe is the biggest in Sussex, cleverly provides family fun where children can be watched over as well as more secluded areas.
On sunny summer weekends we offer an outside bar, live music and barbecues. We also have an outside ice-cream shack which is always a favourite with the children.
